黄河和丝绸之路是华夏文明的代表，粉嫩这两条最主要的文明的线路恰恰在靖远发生了交汇。 靖远，粉嫩是中华古文明的十字路口。中原农耕文化、西域游牧文化，包括草原文化、青藏文化这四大版块的文化都在靖远丝绸之路上的黄河古渡发生着巧妙的碰撞。虎豹口、乌兰津、索桥关、寺尔湾、五佛沿等等，这些丝绸古道上的黄河渡口，有着丰富的未被发掘的人文价值。纪录片《丝绸之路上的黄河古渡》选择了索桥古渡作为代表，以纪录片的写实的方法， 探索了古人如何选择渡口、渡河方法、渡口沿革等历史疑团。2
