寒天为了找到20年前父亲失踪的真相，魔女来到了凤凰山，魔女寒天无意间进到了一个女儿国，在女儿国里寒天经历了一番奇遇，经历了层层磨难，女儿国的族人们终于接受了寒天，寒天也发现了20年前父亲失踪的真相，原来这个女儿国隐藏着一个大的金矿，20年前寒天的父亲发现了金矿并无心给女儿国带来了一场灾难，族长发现了寒天的身份要杀了寒天，寒天被郡主熙偌救下，此时偷偷跟踪寒天而来的江老爷闯进了族里，寒天最后为了保护女儿国族人和江老爷决一死战……

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
