本剧是将同时也是医生的芥川奖作家南木佳士的同名小说改编成由中村梅雀和津田宽治主演的人性剧。本剧以信州美丽的大自然为背景，日本人成刻画了从静冈医院转院到故乡医院的末期癌症患者和他为了实现他临终的愿望而真挚面对的医生们的心灵交流。导演是《某个审讯》的村桥明郎。山中静夫从自己家所在的静冈医院来到了信州的综合医院。他是被宣告余命的末期癌症患者，日本人成担当医生的今井俊行，考虑到陪伴家人的负担，建议在静冈的医院进行再治疗。但是，山中说“反正要死的话，看着生长的山想死”，选择在这里的治疗。他瞒着妻子，决定亲手在故乡的墓地里造墓。知道了这个的今井，为了实现他临终的愿望，拼命地支持他。另一方面，今井因为面对众多患者的死亡而最终患上了抑郁症。
