回复 : 日本大学生夜神月在捡到一本“死亡笔记”后人生起了巨大变化，该笔记本上的规则声称，任何人只要想着某个人的脸、同时将该人的姓名写在死亡笔记上，被写上名字的人就会死亡。月最初并不相信其效力，但在实验之后验证了其效力，并与笔记本的原持有者死神流愚见面。之后，夜神月开始以笔记本杀死世界上的罪犯，成为闻名世界的连环杀手“基拉”。 基拉的犯行引起国际刑警组织的注意，但他们查不出任何结果。这一案件最后引起了L的注意，L是一位神秘的天才侦探，他靠着与国际刑警组织和日本警方的合作，推断出基拉位在关东地区。于是、夜神月与L这两个天才开始互相刺探对方的身份，展开了智力对决。 在月入侵了身为日本警察高层的父亲电脑后、从数据库里找到更多的罪犯档案，但L也因此发现基拉可能和日本警方联系，因此L派出美国联邦调查局（FBI）跟踪月，但月发现到这点并杀死了FBI探员雷·岩松，雷·岩松的未婚妻南空直美为了复仇而开始搜查，月注意到她后用计杀死了她。
